Play Therapy

Child psychotherapy is an intervention for persons 18 years and under who may be experiencing distress or wanting to understand themselves better. For young children Play Therapy is used as a technique to access the child’s internal world. Playing is thought of as a language children use to communicate what words may not aid them in saying. Young children may lack the ability to verbally express their emotions and thoughts, making play a crucial form of communication.
“The purpose of play is diverse: a rehearsal for future life; dealing with anxiety and conflict; exploring the space between fantasy and reality; and cognitive and social experimentation. As one three-year-old reportedly, ‘Play is work, of course!’” – Ann Horne
